Remember, Carla's album "The Ring Of Truth" saw its U.S. release August 27, 2002 on Smile Records and is distributed by Image Entertainment. The U.K. release is on Evangeline Recorded Works/UNI, and is available in England.

2001 also saw the release of "Honest As Daylight - The Best Of Carla Olson: 1981 - 2000". This 16 song career cross-section was released by Houston Party Records in Spain, HPR 035. See our Projects/Discography [Current] section for more info on this and other projects.

The debut Textones album, Midnight Mission, saw its first-ever European CD release in 2001 by Evangeline Recorded Works. Guests thereon include Ry Cooder, Don Henley, and Gene Clark. (Acadia/Evangeline Recorded Works ACA 8016)

Tentative 2003 plans include the re-release of the Textones' Cedar Creek album as well as re-releases of Carla's Within An Ace, Reap The Whirlwind, and the never-issued-in-the-U.S. Carla Olson disc that was recorded in Malmo, Sweden in 1988. Also the Carla/Mick Taylor live album Two Hot For Snakes and the duet album with Gene Clark: So Rebellious A Lover should both be reissued. Also possible for 2003 release is The Textones Live In Detroit 1985 as recorded by Westwood One.

Happy 2003!

Here's what's shaking so far this new year:

SESSION NEWS:
Carla recently sang on forthcoming albums by actor Peter Stormare (Fargo, Windtalkers, Chocolat, Minority Report), and Greg Copeland (Jackson Browne's pal).

LIVE APPEARANCE NEWS:
Carla played (as reported here) a Gene Clark tribute concert in Chicago last autumn duetting with Gene's younger brother Rick Clark. Watch for their first California appearance at the Knitting Factory on Thursday February 6th opening for Cowboy Nation.

NEW RECORDING NEWS:
The long-discussed album of Carla performing Michael Nold songs will be recorded this year. (Carla covered Nold's 'Dark Horses' on the Within An Ace album.) Also very possible are new projects with Mick Taylor, Phil Upchurch, Ernie Watts, Mare Winningham, and Country/Pop legend Billy Joe Royal.

REISSUE NEWS:
This should be the year for the release of an expanded version of the Gene Clark & Carla Olson album So Rebellious A Lover as well as other catalogue albums including Too Hot For Snakes, Within An Ace, and Reap The Whirlwind. (And 2003 may also see the as-yet-unreleased Phil Seymour Live At The Hong Kong Cafe 1979 album as well!)

And for the record here are Carla's favorite recordings of 2002 (not in any particular order):

Beeline by Peter Case
'Streets Of Laredo' by Johnny Cash (from The Man Comes Around album)
Cowgirl a-Go-Go by Cowboy Nation
Jerusalem by Steve Earle
Harmapa by Thomas Holst (of Sweden's Wilmer X)
Down In The Alley by Alvin Youngblood Hart
Cool Rasta by The Heptones (reissue)
The Early King Sessions by Little Willie John (compilation)
The Best Of Etta Jones (The Prestige Singles)
Complete Greatest Hits by Gordon Lightfoot
A Little Sin by Doug MacLeod
Estoy Como Nunca by Eliades Ochoa
Live At The Wetlands by Robert Randolph
'Don't Stop' by The Rolling Stones (the European "new rock mix" CD single)
'Stealing My Heart', 'Keys To Your Love', and 'Losing My Touch' by The Rolling Stones on Forty Licks
'Storybook Children' by Billy Joe Royal on the Taragon Very Best Of CD
Play The Great Instrumental Hits Of All Time by The Ventures (recent recordings)

And the best album of the year:

Reggae Rocks - A Reggae Tribute To The Rolling Stones
(of special note: 'Start Me Up' by Toots and The Maytals, 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' by Sugar Black, 'Waiting On A Friend' by Hu Jay, 'Brown Sugar' by Ken Boothe, and Susan Cadogen's lovely version of 'As Tears Go By'.)
